Diane Doble graduated in ‘3-D & Theatre Design’ from the internationally renowned Theatre Department of Wimbledon School of Art (now Wimbledon College of Art/University of the Arts London) in 1968. She holds a Diploma in Art & Design (Dip.AD); now conferred as a BA Hons, (CNAA/OU.), a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE in Early Years), and a PhD (Bris).
After careers - often as parallel strands - as a designer of sets and costumes, prop-maker and milliner for theatre, ballet and opera, for community, fringe and children’s theatre productions/theatre-in-education and puppetry in the UK and Africa, in international trade fair design in Africa, in Early Years to Adult Education teaching, Diane received a PhD and moved into academia and early childhood education consultancy.
In 2006, Diane returned to work as an independent artist on her creative and theatrical ventures in a different vein. Following many requests, Diane began to publish her costume designs from 2007. These beautiful and enchanting drawings, collages, mixed media works and sketches on paper, tissue and card accompanied by Diane’s annotations and research notes, are unique working documents from a particular era in theatre production.
Besides limited edition prints from her past theatre involvement Diane is also a producer of scale models and props; 'old masters' reproduction paintings; trompe l'oeil, and conservation work; creative textile products: e.g. quilts; mobiles; fantasy spectacle cases, etc; children's illustrations and illustrative forms of botanical & zoological studies as originals and limited edition prints, etc.
